Must Have in 2015: Instagram

Perhaps you have heard of it. Instagram. That little picture icon. Your middle school students are discussing it in their math classes. What is it really? Similar to Facebook, it allows users to share photos to their community. In the world of social media, Instagram is quickly becoming a necessity for branding. Since the company's launch October 2010, over 200 million monthly active users, 60 million photos posted daily, and an average of 1.6 billion likes every single day (Simply Measured, 2014). 86% of top brands have Instragram accounts in 2014 - a fifteen percent increase.

Some Lutheran schools have begun to pave the way in Instagram, posting the same pictures they share on Facebook on Instagram. Here are some tips to make you a little more social:
  • Tag another users to increase your engagement by 56%. Post pictures after you have a guest speaker and tag the user.
  • Add a location to increase engagement by 79%. Ask your community to share your events and tag your location. (Just be careful that the person doesn't mind have their picture taken - safety first!)
  • Use hashtags in your posts to increase engagement by 12.6%. Create one for your school to start branding your ministry, and use #luthed and #lea to share with other educators. Get creative to give your post excitement!
After making sure that you have the proper wording in your school's policies, create an account and get started! Post consistently, and add the link to your school's website and newsletters. Have a blessed week in the Lord!
